The Netherlands and South Africa have a far-reaching partnership surrounding agrifood and horticulture. South Africa found an important export market for fruit, flowers and wine to Europe in the port of Rotterdam, while Dutch horticultural seeds, high yielding potato varieties and innovative machines have found their way to South African farmers and entrepreneurs. Besides the import and export relationship, the Netherlands supports South African food production through technological development and business innovations. Dutch agribusinesses have established companies and realized the production of food additives, flowers, bakery ingredients and beer in South Africa; giving employment to thousands of people.
In their tiny country, the Dutch have learned to efficiently deal with costly resources, such as land, water, energy and labour. They are excited to partner with South Africa to find new ways to be competitive in the domestic and export markets.
